This Bureau of the U.S. Treasury Department promotes “the financial integrity and operational efficiency of the federal government through accounting, financing, collections, payments and shared services.” The department goal is “more efficiency, better transparency, and dependable accountability.”

Affiliated with the U.S. Treasury Dept., the mission of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network is “to safeguard the financial system from illicit use, combat money laundering, and promote national security through the collection, analysis, and dissemination of financial intelligence and strategic use of financial authorities.”

As a non-partisan agency that reports directly to Congress, this government office investigates how the federal government spends taxpayer dollars. This office also produces the Yellow Book, the Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards, which provides “a framework for conducting high quality-audits." The Yellow Book is for use by auditors of government entities, entities that receive government awards, and other audit organizations performing Yellow Book audits.

A nonpartisan committee of the United States Congress that “assists members of both houses of Congress on tax legislation.”

Providing information pertaining to financial management in government, the council was “established to advise and coordinate the activities of the member agencies on such matters as consolidation and modernization of financial systems, improved quality of financial information, financial data and information standards, internal controls, legislation affecting financial operations and organizations, and any other financial management matter.”

Founded in 1887, this professional organization for accountants develops audit standards, provides educational materials to its members, develops and grades the Uniform CPA Examination, and monitors and enforces compliance with the profession’s technical and ethical standards.
