TRIO Student Support Services (TRIO SSS) at HCC is designed to help students who are first-generation, income-eligible, and have documented disabilities. As a federally funded program, TRIO SSS works to enable a select group of students to overcome barriers toward achieving personal, academic, and financial success.

Applicants to TRIO must meet the following criteria:
Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States
Be enrolled in classes at Hagerstown Community College
Demonstrate academic need
Also, SSS participants must meet at least one of the three requirements:
First-generation college student (neither parent has earned a four-year degree)
Income eligibility as defined by the Department of Education
Having a documented disability as defined by the Americans with Disability Act
Spaces in the program are limited to 175 students each year. Admission is selective.

One-on-one academic tutoring (specializing in math, science, and writing) and weekly study sessions
Personalized academic advising, goal setting, transfer planning, and career guidance
Assistance with completing the FAFSA, applying for scholarships, and improving financial literacy
Academic coaching to enhance study skills, test-taking skills, note-taking, and time-management
Off campus trips to four-year universities and attend cultural and educational events
Participation in an overall support community with motivated peers, encouraging advisors, and annual ceremonies to celebrate TRiO SSS students
