HCC Archives: Procedures

Procedures of the Archives

The materials in the HCC Archives are open to all students, faculty and community members who may wish to view them. We do have some general procedures that we ask all archive visitors to uphold.

Procedures

  • All researchers will sign in and sign out with every visit to the archives. During the first visit researchers will also meet with the archivist to go over basic procedures.
  • A student/staff ID is required prior to use of archival materials. A driver's license may be used as an alternative.
  • All backpacks, briefcases, purses, coats, etc. must be stored with the archivist while using archival materials.
  • All materials will be used in the designated researcher space.
  • Pencils, laptops, and cameras are permitted.
  • No food, drink or pens allowed near the archival materials.
  • Please handle all materials with care. This may mean wearing cotton gloves when handling audio/visual materials.
  • Copies will be made by archival staff upon request.

Copyright

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use”, that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
