On June 19th, 1865, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation and four months after the Thirteenth Amendment was signed by Abraham Lincoln, the enslaved people of Galveston Bay, Texas finally received word of their freedom. That day was memorialized as Juneteenth.
The Doleman Black Heritage Museum will be celebrating Juneteenth with several events over the weekend. See their website for more information
Visit the Brish Library's page on Juneteenth for more events and resources.
