According to a study conducted by Drexel University, published in 2015, about 36% of young adults with autism spectrum disorder attended postsecondary education and 70% of those attended a 2-year college like HCC. Transitioning to college life can be challenging for many people and it leads to higher levels of stress. It requires more self-advocacy than in K-12 schools and students must disclose their disability to receive support services.
Students with autism spectrum disorder or other visible or invisible disabilities are encouraged to reach out to the HCC’s Disability Support Services to learn about their options for reasonable accommodations.
