This month we celebrate Irish American heritage as well as Women’s History. At the intersection of these categories are many women, known and unknown, who shaped the trajectory of America. Take some time this month to learn about a new figure in history and what they have done for humanity. Margaret "Molly" Brown was a first generation American of Irish parents and born in 1867. She is notable for her survival during the Titanic tragedy and her work with trade unions and the women's suffrage moment. Did you know on September 17, 1862, at the Battle of Antietam, the Irish Brigade held back the Confederate army against all odds? Known as one of the bloodiest battle of the Civil War, Antietam served as a major turning point in American history, prompting Abraham Lincoln to issue the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation.
