Course-Level Student-Learning Outcomes Assessments are used to determine achievement of learning outcomes at the course level. All courses have course-specific outcomes, while general education courses also have general education outcomes. For a course to be considered a general education course, it must undergo review by the Curriculum Committee to ensure that it meets the required outcomes and has a satisfactory assessment plan. Forms required for the review are typically completed by the faculty member with assistance from the Division Director.
Each course is expected to have 3-5 course outcomes, which reflect what a student knows or is able to do upon successful completion of the course. Each outcome should be a clear, concise, and measurable statement of student achievement, aligning learning with assessment. Each section of a course must have at least one common assessment used to measure course level outcomes.
