PALS (Program of Adult Literacy Services) Resource Guide: About PALS

PALS at HCC

The mission of the Program of Adult Literacy Services (PALS) is to provide students with educational and workforce training opportunities to enhance their lives as individuals, workers, and members of the community. Students can access courses designed to support development of basic literacy skills, English-language acquisition, high school completion preparation and short-term career training programs. For more information, call the Adult Literacy Services Office at 240-500-2313.

Program Requirements

All students are required to complete testing prior to registering for classes. Students can access upcoming testing dates and times through the links on the START HERE tab. All classes, including NEDP, have no fee. Internet websites and other on-line resources are provided; however, it is strongly encouraged that students purchase recommended textbooks. Students must be 19 years old to enroll in the Program of Adult Literacy Services (PALS) courses. Funding for the Adult Education Program is provided by the U.S. Department of Labor and Hagerstown Community College.
